Answer:
1.) Its not that they have a difficult time believing it, its just because they do not want to believe it.
2.) Some people are either ignorant or have a big ego, which leads them to disapprove of scientific evidence.
3.) They believe it has nothing to do with them. Or its up to the younger generations to fix their mess.
Explanation:
1. Some people, especially older folks such as baby boomers, have heard several times in their lifetime that the world was going to end. Each time they have been told this, it sent their generation into a panic for no reason and nothing ever happened. Over time, this could have lead them to stop believing everything they hear, even if science is available to back up the claim.
2. People who are too full of themselves think they are so smart that they know everything. They often dissuade scientists because they don't like to be told right from wrong or do not like to hear the truth, especially if it means they are incorrect. They will pull up false claims, blame the media, and make up rumors to counterclaim scientists and make them seem as if they are the ones in the wrong. When in fact, it is the opposite.
3. This one is best compared to a procrastinator's mindset. Lets say you had a fresh load of laundry just sitting around the house and it needed to be put away. You aren't doing anything of importance at the moment, but you don't feel like getting up. The whole day passes by and nothing was done about the laundry. Before you go to bed you tell yourself "I'll just do it tomorrow." Tomorrow comes, and the laundry is still sitting there. Weeks turn to months, and months can turn to years until someone breaks the cycle and does something about the laundry. Some people have this mindset about global warming as well. They believe, "oh, someone will come along and fix it, so it has nothing to do with me." Or "I'll be dead by the time something happens anyways." These claims are incorrect, the second one even more. Things are still happening every single day, even if they are not impacting you directly, they sure are impacting you indirectly.
