Two Kinds is a short story written by Amy Tan about a mother and her obsession with proving that her daughter Jing Mei is a prodigy and makes her undergo several acts she's seen prodigious kids perform but without success. She eventually makes her take piano lessons from a partially deaf instructor of which she doesn't learn and performs badly.
