In “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” the Chivalric Code plays a large role in regards to Sir Gawain’s encounter with Lady Bertilak. The Chivalric Code dictates that he respects her and her wishes, this would mean not embarrassing or hurting the woman’s feelings. This is what lead to Sir Gawain exchanging a few kisses with Lady Bertilak. Although it may seem like the wrong thing to do in our current society, to those living at the time it was the right thing to do, and to not do so would be to hurt the woman’s dignity.
