- Food webs are known to give a vivid view of how matter and energy is transferred between organisms and their interactions within an ecosystem.
Organisms such as decomposers are known to recycle nutrients from dead plant or animal matter back to the soil in terrestrial environments/ aquatic environments.
Energy is known to enters the ecosystem through radiation from the sun. Energy then flows through the organisms. Plants and algae consume the sun's energy and use it to make chemical energy (glucose) via photosynthesis.
Other organisms then take in or absorb plants (that is heterotrophs) and in turn they receive that energy, which is thereafter released as heat when cells undergo respiration and carry out metabolic functions.
