This was a traumatic and anxious time for the entire world, as the two superpowers kept adding to their nuclear stockpile due to distrust. The two nations never came to a violent conflict with each other. Instead, they both supported opposite sides of regional conflicts. For example, the Vietnam War. The USA supported the democratic south, while the USSR supported the communist north. The two countries made their beliefs known and indirectly fought with each other at the expense of another.
