Embers citizens had minimal knowledge of how electricity works because that’s how the founders wanted it to be. They wanted to keep them away from reality. Yes, it was done on purpose but knowledge was also lost over time. Older citizens would tell stories of the real world (and electricity) and nobody would believe them because younger citizens had never seen it. It wasn’t untill Lina and Doon that younger citizens really understood electricity.
