Answer:

Pan, in both stories, was a god with a soul for music. For they both have their differences, but they both travel back to being a music freak. He overpowered women and seduced them, until he met musical instruments.

The differences in these stories are very clear. In "The Musical Instrument" Pan seems a lot more forceful and frightening. Which, in the Myth, this is not true. He did use sexual powers at his advantage but he was a very knowledgeable god.

Explanation:

There are many connections in the poem “A Musical Instrument” and the Greek myth of Pan. Here is one of the correlations that the two Pans have, the beginning of the poem focuses on the destruction of Pan. In the poem and the myth, both Pan’s run into a panic and bewilderment in uncertain and irrational situations. Another thing that the poem and the myth have in common is that Pan was half human half “beast” or faun. In the poem, Browning’s described Pan as they do in the myths. “with hoofs of a goat” He also has similar characteristics, the same love for music, and they both live in an alike environment. Pan in Browning’s poem is very identical to the Greek myth of Pan.

Although some things make the poem “A Musical Instrument” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and the myth of Pan identical, there are things the make them unalike. The first difference that I found between the two Pans is in Browning’s poem Pan is the god of music. But in the myth, Pan is the god of the wilderness. The poem also never mentions the first part of the myth, which included Syrinx. The two Pans have their similarities and differences.

I hope this helps : )
