Functions of the epididymis
The epididymis is a major component of the male reproductive system.
It is a long, coiled tube found around the distal end of each testicle. Sperm cells that are synthesized in the testes are stored in the epididymis.
Since newly synthesized sperm cells are immature, they are nurtured to maturity while being stored in the epididymis.
The contraction of the epididymis during arousal forces the matured sperm cells into another structure known as the vas deferens.
