Amoeba sisters video recap: Genetic Drift

populations can have variety, despite being made up of the same species. if a population has different expressed traits, this can be due to different inherited alleles. Genetic drift can cause a change in allele frequency in a population. What if you had to explain genetic drift to a friend, who has not watched the video? Use he comics below in your narration of genetic drift. Refer to comic A, comic B, and comic C in your narrative. You can use the comics in any order you choose!

Answer:

Genetic drift is simply a change in the frequency of alleles in a population.

Like shown in the comic A, there are different genes present on chromosomes. All of these genes are made up of a pair of alleles. These alleles determine the genotype and the resulting phenotype of an organism.

If none of the alleles is favored by the environment, then a population will have equal no.of all the variant forms of a trait. Like shown in the comic B, both the green and the grey animals are favored equally.

But if natural selection occurs and one form of the allele variant is favored, then a genetic drift will occur. Most of the organisms will have the alleles which are favored by the environment. Like shown in Comic C, where the grey alleles are favored more than the green alleles.

The gene drift is just the changes in the frequency of the alleles in any population.

What is gene drift?

The gene drift is a change in the frequency of the existing variant and is created due to the rare alleles that get more frequent.

Comic A shows the different genes present on the chromosomes are ade of the same pair of alleles that determine the gene and phenotype.

If non are favored by the environment then the population will have no variants. Like it's shown in comic B. The Comic C shows alleles are favored in green alleles
