"Possibilism" is considered a theory in cultural geography. It states that there is a relationship between the natural environment and the people within the communities with which they support. This means that people survive in the environment through different possibilities, but which the environment has set limitations.

In order to survive in a tropical environment, man will be building houses to shade themselves from the scorching heat of the sun. They will also be using "irrigation" in order to supply water essential for the production of crops. These are just some of the possibilities that the man has authority over. However, doing these advancements have limitations, which means man have to choose the best option in order to survive.
