"It's raining cats and dogs"
"The rain is as cold as ice"
"It's so cold, we might be in Antarctica"
"Winter is as freezing as a polar bear's home"
"The sun won't shine until it is a million years later"
These are just some idioms. These include similes and metaphors.
Here's a short story.
Kaleb walked outside. "Oh, Mom, it's raining cats and dogs- how am I going to use my kite?" He shut the door, not letting the rain come in. "Not only that- the rain is as cold as ice. It's 22 degrees!" Kaleb's mom said. "Oh no, this wasn't the right time to buy a kite. Winter is as freezing as a polar bear's home, I hate this so much!" Kaleb said. "Oh, Kaleb, don't be so sad," said Kaleb's dad. "We can find a day, maybe tomorrow. It's windy tomorrow." "Oh, be quiet! It's raining all week! It will also be cold! It's so cold, we might be in Antarctica!" Kaleb's aunt (his dad's side) said. "Oh, man," Kaleb's dad said. Kaleb sighed, and put his kite away. "The sun won't shine until it is a million years later," he said.

Answer:
Next month is the race between two-track teams and I'm in one of them. My team is called the Road Runners our enemy is the Cheetahs but the thing I'm worried about is that we are outnumbered so they have a better chance of winning but enough of me talking oh yeah I forgot to mention that I'm Katelyn and more people will be introduced later in the story so I hope you enjoy my story of how we won the race
Today was a Friday me and all the club's practice after school on Fridays. As I was getting ready to train the race the leader of the Cheetahs came up to me and said "well well well, speak of the devil you have no chance of beating us" he said as continuing with a laugh. "C'mon just ignore him" Skylar stated also known as my teammate and close friend. As I started to walk away Billy said (also known as team Cheetahs leader)"hmm what’s wrong cats got your tongue?". I ignored him because I knew he was trying to get on my nerves with the sarcastic tone in his voice. I continued to walk to our team’s assigned training room. We trained for about an hour. "Let’s call it a day guys" I stated everyone answered with a nod. For the weekend I continued to train but not too much that I would overwork myself. Two weeks later on Wednesday, we studied in our assigned club room. Thirty minutes later while we were taking a break we heard a knock on the door. As I got up to get to the door I thought to myself "I wonder who could be knocking on our door?". As I open the door I see a boy with brown hair and a bag with him. I confusingly said "May I help you?" The boy said cheerfully "I would like to sign up for the team!". I thought to myself who would be wanting to join our team 2 weeks before the big race?!" I hesitantly said " We usually don't do tryouts before something as big as the race in two weeks but we'll make an exception because we are short on team members". The boy said " thank you so much I won't let you down!". "Tryouts start tomorrow don't be late" I said . The boy said, " I'll be there!" As he continues to go home.
"I don't know about that kid he seems like a geek not like a runner" one of my teammates stated "Let’s just see what he's made out of first" Skylar stated "yea I'm ready to hit the sack for today" goodbye everyone! Don't forget tryouts are tomorrow" I said. The next day the boy showed up at tryouts as he said he would "you may start " I stated as I started the timer". The team stood there in relief he was amazing! He was a blessing in disguise As he made his way back from the track he said "how did I do?" "You’re in!" Everyone stated. 2 weeks have passed it was time for the race. On your marks get ready, set, go! After 5 rounds the boy saved us he won by afoot. So that's my story of how we won the race.
