A great deal of psychological research supports the folk wisdom that "birds of a feather flock together," but there is little empirical support for the folk wisdom that "opposites attract." According to social psychologists, why do we tend to find people similar to us attractive?

Individuals who share similar interest and likes are likely to be attracted to each other and become friends because it causes a validation of self worth and self esteem compared to individuals who do not share similar interest, they may likely see your interests and hobbies as useless thus putting your down and destroying your self esteem and self worth. Individuals generally stick to people who value them.
Individuals tend to avoid negative emotional energies and feelings by liking people who like them back and this is usually possible between individuals who are similar, they tend to reciprocate the feelings of likeness unlike individuals who do not share anything in common.
Social psychologist asserts that individuals who share similar likes and dislikes have a higher tendency of being attracted to each other.
