The principle of double-entry system is that for each debit, there is going to be a corresponding credit for an equal amount of money. Similarly, for every credit there is going to be an equal amount of money as a corresponding debit.

For example, for each transaction,  a single account is debited for the same  amount of money as the other account that is being credited.

Therefore the system in which the transaction is accounted in two accounts for the same amount of money is known as double entry system.
