The action of Sykes trampling Delia clothing, mentally as well as physically abusing her is all symbolical in action and portray a sense of disregard that he has for his wife.
Zora Hurston has been considered as one of the earliest and most influential female writers of her time, who challenged the male dominance in “literary activities”.
