Women mostly stayed at home to care for their homes and families while their husbands went
overseas to fight in World War I.

Answer: The role of women in society changed dramatically in WWI. Women were needed to do jobs that previously would not have been given the opportunity to do. Their pay increased and generally they experienced more freedom. Women worked heavy machinery, on farms, civil service, and factories.
