Affect in place of effect

It is a common error to replace effect and affect and to confuse the two with each other. In genral principle one can remember that:
Effect is when something directly results into something as in, the effect was that the people started taking more medicines.
Affect is when something influences change in something without doing it by itself.
As in, The sales were affected by the spread of the virus.
