Short Term Memory has three major aspects which includes:
1. Limited capacity: most adult often store between 5 and 9 items at a time.
2. Limited duration: most short term memory can be recalled between 15 and 30 seconds, which can be lost, as passage of time increases.
3. Encoding: short term memory codes the information into the brain, so as to access it quickly, such as translating visual information into sound.
This view was further reviewed by Miller in 1956 in his article titled "The Magical Number Seven, Plus or Minus Two" where he asserted that, short term memory could only hold seven (7) items, because the capacity is limited.
