Answer and Explanation:
Structural Functionalism/functionalism explains societal functions by viewing society as a complex system of interrelated social institutions that work together to promote solidarity and stability. This approach looks at both social structure and social functions. Drawing from this, the political representative may conclude that the family(most basic social institution) should be required to have children who will be compulsorily educated or skilled in one craft or more therefore having families with more than 1 maybe 3 or 4 kids diversify skills and careers among their children. In this way, the labour force is increased in various fields and there is a functional approach whereby each field works in tandem for the success and stability of the society.
Using structural functionalism for policy ideas, he's likely to conclude that: nuclear families with the father as the sole income-earner should be encouraged.
What is structural functionalism?
Structural functionalism can be defined as a theoretical tradition and school of thought which states that all societies have certain structures e.g gender, family, division of labor, etc., that exist and work together to fulfill a set of essential functions such as the following:
- Production of goods.
- Increase the labor market.
- Reproduction of species.
In this context, the political official is likely to conclude that nuclear families with the father as the sole benefactor and income-earner should be encouraged, if he chooses to draw from structural functionalism for his policy ideas.
