What does a rising trend in obesity for people between the ages of 2 and 19 demonstrate about the current state of health in the United States?

Hi !

Answer:

- Unhealthy eating choices are the driving force behind obesity and other chronic diseases.

- Youth aged 2 to 19 years are more likely to consume unhealthy foods.

Obesity has become a serious health issue. Approximately 35% of the population residing in the US have obesity

Contrary to popular belief, the obesity “epidemic” doesn’t say much about the health of american citizens as a whole. It is not inherently unhealthy to be obese, there are plenty of obese people who are perfectly healthy and in good shape and their levels are fine. But because we live in an inherently fatphobic society we are conditioned to think fat is unhealthy. Although it CAN be unhealthy there are many reasons why someone could be obese; eating disorders, using food as a coping mechanism, overeating compulsively, PCOS and messed up hormones, medication, chronic illness, etc.
Obesity is not a disease, it is not an “epidemic”. Honestly the only thing it really demonstrates is that poor people don’t have enough access to cheap and healthy food and that we don’t have enough support for fat people suffering from eating disorders. I’m not saying “we should all be obese, it’s great and awesome!!” I’m saying not all obese people are these lazy unfit people like you’d see on my 600 lb life
