Cells harvest energy from food molecules by respiration. This process is aerobic which means that it requires oxygen. Cellular respiration has four primary pathways namely glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, the Kreb's cycle and the electron transport chain. The final electron acceptor is oxygen.
