I need help to remember how to find the number of solutions to a system of equations. being

2x+6Y=5 above x+3y=2

how many solutions (x,y) are there?

Respuesta :

2x + 6y = 5
x + 3y = 2 .....multiply by -2
-----------------
2x + 6y = 5
-2x - 6y = - 4 ...(result of multiplying by -2)
----------------add
0 = 1 (incorrect).......no solutions because the lines are parallel.

little tip :
if ur system of equations comes out where it is not equal....like 4 = 5, or 6 = 7...then there is no solutions.

if ur system of equations comes out where it is equal...like 5 = 5 or 8 = 8, then there is infinite solutions

if ur system of equations comes out where a variable = a number....like x = 2 or y = 5.....then there is one solution
