The beginnings of the representation of drama began in Greece. However, with the expansion of the Roman Empire, theater as an art, and the representation of both tragedies and comedies, began from 27 BC, roughly. Drama was the first of the two genres to be widely written about and represented in theaters and many were the writers who became a part of it. However, later on in 240 BC, Livius Andronicus became the first playwright of both comedies and tragedies. As the genre of comedy developed, two writers became particularly known for their advance in the art of comedy writing and playing. The first was Titus Maccius Plautus (Plautus) and Publius Terentius Afer (Terence). From the two, the best known for his work was Plautus, 204 BC- 184 BC and this is because of the use of farce and witty dialogue and because he was one of the first to use a great variety of poetic meter.
