So you need to isolate/get "b" by itself in the equation:

[tex]3=\frac{3}{4}(b-8)[/tex]       Distribute/multiply 3/4 into (b - 8)

[tex]3=(\frac{3}{4}(b))+(\frac{3}{4}(-8))[/tex]

[tex]3=(\frac{3}{4} b)+(-6)[/tex]           Don't know which goes into the parentheses....think the one above makes more sense...maybe....sorry

[tex]3=\frac{3}{4} b-6[/tex]           Add 6 on both sides

[tex]9=\frac{3}{4} b[/tex]        Multiply the reciprocal of 3/4 to get rid of the fraction and get b by itself, which would be 4/3  [basically flipping the fraction or switching the numerator and the denominator]

[tex]\frac{36}{3} =b[/tex]            Simplify the fraction

12 = b
