Sahel is a dry land in west Africa. It has the semi arid climate. Little rainfall in Sahel which leads to very hot and dry summers. There is no vegetation to protect the dampness in the soil. Sometimes floods and extreme winds may cause huge rainfall but it will be mostly dried up.

Mortality rate is decreased in Sahel. Due to increase in demand for fire wood, the forests are devastated leading to more barren lands. People practice intensive cultivation in order to grow more crops and there is no grazing lands because of which farm animals sustenance is only for a short period.
