In 1826 Harappa was discovered by a group of engineers working to construct rail tracks through the Punjab region which spans across India and Pakistan. Excavation first began in 1920 and 1921. During the excavation the rich culture and great works of arts of the Indus River Valley Civilization was revealed. Some of the artifacts discovered are sculptures, pottery, paintings, seals, gold jewelry, figurines made of bronze, terracotta and satiate. The bricks discovered were made of red sand, clay stones and the bricks were baked under very high temperature.
However, it has been revealed that the Indus River Valley started with small settlements with a collection of of workshops where very skilled craftsmen made agate beads and pots.
