Answer:  Adding and Subtracting Decimals

Write down the numbers, one under the other, with the decimal points lined up.

Put in zeros so the numbers have the same length (see below for why that is OK)

Then add using column addition, remembering to put the decimal point in the answer.

Examples:  45.06-46.07= -1.01

34.67+34.34= 69.01

One of the rules is you have to move the decimal to the left if its going to get smaller and to the right if its going to get larger.

Example:

178.95 + 498.2

you move the decimal over to the right two times on this one because the decimal is getting larger. atleast thats what i was taught.
