Protective tariffs, black codes, Jim crow laws, segregation, slavery legitimized, Lincoln Douglass debates which revolved around the abolition of slavery but Douglas took the other way around and hence the heated up argumentative debates became an eye catcher and eye opener for the rise of civil war. Dr. king's arguments that injustice prevailed everywhere and a non violent  protest of the African Americans is of no harm.

Explanation:

High tariffs on the goods which were imported by the southerners was the cause of argument between northern states and south which gave rise to sectionalism. south felt that it is exploited by inflicting high tariffs on imports. Southern states are basically agricultural economy and these were too high for them to stabilize the economy of south.

Black codes and segregation in the public places were legitimized until the landmark decision made by the supreme court in Brown vs. Board of education which ruled that separate but equal doctrine in the constitution had an inherent element of racial inequality and hence segregation based on ethnicity is illegal. This revolutionary judgement marked the rise if civil war. Lincoln-Douglas debates attracted the attention of many people and abolition of slavery was much talked upon. This also paved way for Lincoln to gather votes and support fro his next presidential election. Finally, Dr. king' s motivational speech which centered around abolition of slavery made the people to understand the significance of abolition of racial segregation which made him succeed in getting the civil rights passed.
