If a dairyman has 300 pounds of milk testing 3% butterfat, how many pounds of skimmed milk (with no butterfat) must he remove to have milk testing 3.6% butterfat?

Respuesta :

Answer:

60 pounds of skimmed milk to be removed

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that 300 pounds of milk is testing 3 % of milk

It means;

3% of fats = 300 pounds of milk

or

1% of fats = 100 pounds of milk -------------(1)

Now let x% of fat be added to present value of fats so that it becomes 3.6% of fats

i-e

x+3=3.6

this gives  x=0.6% of fats needs to be increased

but from eq (1)    we know

1% of fats =100 pounds of milk

so, 0.6% of fats = 0.6x100=60 pounds of skimmed milk is to be removed .
