WW1 led to more women joining the workforce and the war effort. Women worked as nurses, engineers etc. The great migration was the movement of poor whites and African Americans to the north to find work in factories. This was because many men were off at war and jobs needed to be filled. Barrio was a neighborhood of Hispanics that moved to the same area so they could speak their language and keep their culture intact.
