The conflict was most influenced by the failure of the United States to adhere to previously signed treaties.
During the second half of the 19th century, there was a major conflict between the white settlers and American Indians over land and the natural resources that were being found in the West. Because of the U.S Government inability to adhere to previously signed treaties and repeated attempts of the American Army to remove these Native Americans from their lands against their will, American Indians were forcibly deprived of their land. However, some tribes resisted the relocations and bloody battles took place.
