iv) therefore $x + $y = $425   ⇒   y = -x + 425

vi) therefore y = x +25

vii) substituting the value of y in vi) into the equation in iv) we get

 x + (x + 25) = 425    ⇒   2x  + 25 = 425    ∴ 2x  =  400  ∴ x = 200.

  Therefore Seiji earns $200.

viii) therefore y = x + 25    ⇒   y  = 200 + 25 = 225

ix) therefore Gavin earns $225.
