Answer:

.) Foods high in sugar, fat, or salt tend to elevate mood by stimulating the brain's reward system. Because of this, comfort foods provide a temporary sense of wellbeing, ultimately making one feel comforted, or satisfied.

.) Dairy is a vital source for calcium---a nutrient we all require. Regular consumption of dairy is important for children's (and adults') general health as it helps to maintain our weight, reduces our risk for gum disease and is ultimately high in vital nutrients and proteins.

.) As opposed to medical research 42 years ago (1978) medical advances have since progressed drastically. It's certainly no surprise nutritionists / health officials have gained much more knowledge and insight on what was once believed to be true.

.) When you prepare your own food (whether it be from scratch or a box), you can usually control how much butter, oil, sugar, and salt are added to your food--you can even edit a few ingredients here and there (ie. replacing butter with vegetable butter, coconut oil, etc.). This is a major factor in why those who eat at home tend to consume less sugar and processed foods as opposed to those who regularly eat out. Plus, eating at home lets you reduce portion sizes as opposed to restaurants. You feel less likely to eat more because you control your portion sizes.
