Due to global warming, oceans are getting warmer. The warming of oceans means dissolve more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere the oxygen. This makes the water less oxygenated for corals. The increased amount of carbon dioxide dissolved also makes the waters slightly more acidic. Corals are very sensitive to changes in their environment and hence the coral bleaching phenomenon around the world.
Due to climate change, the levels of oceans are rising as the polar caps are melting at faster rates. This means that corals are getting submerged and therefore are not receiving the requisite amount of sunlight needed at shallower levels. This is exacerbated by the problem of pollution. The ocean water is no longer clear enough to allow enough sunlight to penetrate in the photic zones without being largely diffused by the pollutants.
