President Lincoln addressed the questions that were summarized by doing the following:

  • He established a reconstruction process in the Southern part of the country.
  • He tried to readmit members of the confederacy back into the Union.
  • He tried to eliminate the slavery that existed in the different confederate states.
  • He was in support of allowing freedmen the opportunity to vote.

All of these were contained in the proclamation of amnesty and plans for reconstruction that was granted to those that had agreed to be allegiant to the constitution.

Those who had agreed to do away with slavery and swear allegiance to the Union and constitution were to be readmitted.
