What do pieces such as ""Marriage Is a Private Affair"" and the excerpt from Nectar in a Sieve demonstrate about the influence of modern ideas and modern ways on traditional cultures? How are the characters in these works affected by the modernization of their respective societies?

Respuesta :

Explanation:

‘Nectar in a Sieve’ is a novel written by Kamala Markandaya. The novel is based upon a story of poor husband and wife Nathan and Rukmani. Rukmani was married when she was only 12 years old. After her marriage she faced a lot of trouble. The couple where already poor and on top of that Rukmani gave birth to 5 children, one daughter and four son. The story depicts how traditional culture of early marriage can ruin a girls life.

‘Marriage is a private affair’ on the other hand is an amazing story of a young man who refuse to obey his father’s say on marring a girl and rather he choose to marry a woman of his choice. This story depicts the theme of modernity, disagreement, tradition, and most importantly the change that modernization have brought over the last few years.

So if we compare both these stories, we would get to known that the impact modern ideas and modern ways have on traditional cultures is enormous, and good for the betterment of society.
