Answer:

This document explains various public safety measures that need to be considered whilst planning a hydropower project.

Explanation:

Public Safety Measures:

Public safety measures are precautions, policies, actions or considerations that ensure the safety and welfare of the general public.

Since hydal power involves the use of heavy and fast flow of water, people using the lake, river, stream etc must be protected. The listed measures are as follows:

  1. Boat restricting barriers need to be installed upstream of any streams that feed the hydal power project and any dams, overflows or spillways.
  2. Water outflow that flows away after turning the turbine is called a tailrace.  Since the tailrace has a large flow, warning signs that indicates its presence must be installed.
  3. Signs that warn of the presence of a dam reservoir need to be installed.
  4. Any hazardous areas around dams must be protected with a fence.
  5. Warning signs, audible or otherwise must be installed before any change in operations that involves larger overflow e.g. the opening of spillways.
  6. Public should not be allowed in the powerhouse.
  7. Kayakers are not allowed to travel across dams. Therefore, they might need to be transported around it. There should be clear signs that indicate transport places and routes.
