Following are the reasons why some African American were loyalists while the others were patriots:
The African Americans who were loyalists thought that they would have no one to protect their rights if the British Parliament loses its control of the colonies.
On the other hand, the ones who were patriots believed that they would get better treatment once the colonies become independent and there would be no discrimination against them in the colonies thereafter.
