Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) was the founder of modern nursing and a famous statistician.

Nightingale became famous after nursing soldiers on the Crimean War (1853-1856). She created the first secular nursing school in the world (London, 1860) and helped to gave nursing, a job exercised mainly by women, a serious reputation.  

She wrote about her experience as a nurse in a professionalized manner, utilizing statistics. She also was the first woman to participate in the English Royal Statistical Society.
