The pipelines transport oil from the drill cites to the refineries. The pipelines cut across the native american lands. The tribes don't want the pipelines to cross their land because they'll cause "pollution" in their lakes. The pipelines are better for the environment than all the trains and truck that it would take to haul the oil otherwise. When the protests were going on near New Town, ND the people who were protesting caused more pollution to the environment than the pipelines would. They also cost the state of ND a ton of money. I live 2 hours from where the protest were taking place and I think the tribes were acting with no common sense. I think the pipelines are benifecial to the envionment.
