The Caribbean has a long history of struggle and abuse of power by large countries that have often used them to secure their means for war. This has led to country and people having a big problem with the racism and intolerance that currently govern the country.
Because of the long dark history of what used to be a former British Caribbean colony in the West Indies (ie, the New Commonwealth) which gives the term "British blacks" which refers to racism towards the indigenous Caribbean population as a political race label and is often used in social contexts political.
The Caribbean or West Indies is a group of islands found in the Caribbean Sea. These islands stretch southward from under Florida to northwestern Venezuela in South America. It consists of at least 7000 islands, small islands, coral and caye. The islands are grouped into twenty-five regions including independent states, foreign departments, and other administrative regions.
The name "West India" comes from the idea of Christopher Columbus who thought he had landed in India when he reached America. The Caribbean consists of the Large Antilles and Small Antilles and parts of North America.
At one time there was a short-lived country called the Federation of the West Indies which consisted of islands in the Caribbean whose inhabitants spoke English.
Afro-Carribean is Caribbean people of African descent and has lived in the region since the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492. Other names for this group are Africa-Caribbean (especially for the diaspora community in the United Kingdom), Afro-Antilles, or Afro- West Indies. Many Africans were brought to the Caribbean as slaves from the 16th century to the 19th century and employed in sugar plantations. Many Afro-Caribbean people are of non-African descent, such as Europe, South Asia, East Asia, the Middle East, and Native Americans, due to mixed marriages.
Although the majority of Afro-Caribbean people currently live in Spanish, French and English speaking countries, there are also large diaspora communities in Western countries, especially in the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, the United States, and Canada. Communities from countries of origin and diaspora have produced influential figures in Western, Caribbean and African societies, such as political activists Marcus Garvey and C.L.R. James, author Aime Cesaire, scholar Frantz Fanon, American military figure and statesman Colin Powell (his parents have immigrant backgrounds), and Jamaican musician Bob Marley.
