"The text describes several organelles in eukaryotic cells that seem to operate like bacterium. What relationship does this suggest between prokaryotes and eukaryotes? This relationship caused eukaryotes to evolve from prokaryotes. Tell me how this evolution happened and what evidence supports this theory."

Answer:

This relationship suggests that prokaryotes gave rise to eukaryotes.

The Endosymbiotic Theory is a theory which explains how eukaryotes might have evolved from prokaryotes.

This theory explains that certain cell structures like the mitochondria and chloroplasts first existed as prokaryotes. With the passage of time, these smaller prokaryotes were engulfed by larger prokaryotes. This gave rise to eukaryotes.

The proof of this theory is that structures the organelles, mitochondria and chloroplast,  have their own DNA. The genes are transcribed within these organelles.

The size of organelles like mitochondria and chloroplast is the same as a bacterial cell. These cells reproduce by dividing into two, just like the bacterial cells.
