So, we need an equivalent ratio that will tell us how many pieces would be shaded out of 100 pieces per whole.

Ratio: is 7:4 because 7 are shaded and 4 because the two squares are divided into fours

4 times 25 is 100

so also Multiply 7 by 25  

7 x 25 is 175

175% is represented by the shaded area.
