A family of 5 just changed health insurance plans. They moved the entire family to a new plan on June 1st. The previous plan covered them until May 31st. On May 10th the oldest son visited the doctor for chronic asthma. This was nothing new; he has been seeing a doctor for his asthma for 5 years. The insurance company would not pay for the doctor's visit. Under the HIPAA law, does the insurance company have the right to refuse payment?
