The Sun is so far from Earth that rays of sunlight are effectively parallel when they reach Earth’s surface. Sunlight reflected from a mirror can be focused onto a pot of water, raising its temperature enough to pasteurize water, or cook food. Which kind of spherical mirror could be used for this purpose?

Respuesta :

AL2006

If you use a mirror to concentrate the sunlight onto the pot, the mirror has to be concave.

If you use a lens to concentrate the sunlight onto the pot, the lens has to be convex.

The other kinds . . . a convex mirror and a concave lens . . . spread the light out wider, instead of concentrating it into a smaller spot.
