Can you explain why you feel warm when you are standing near a campfire? Why does a carpeted floor feel warmer to bare feet than tile or wood even though all surfaces are the same temperature? What would happen if a person who is wearing a heavy winter jacket were to place a thermometer inside the jacket next to his or her skin? The light, being a wave, carries energy, so it can move from one place to another without requiring a medium. When this light reaches you, part of the energy of the wave gets converted back into heat, which is why you feel warm sitting beside a campfire.
