An element is a pure substance that contains similar types of atoms and can not be broken down into simpler units using chemical means.
A compound is made up of two or more elements that are chemically combined. It contains atoms of different elements and its properties are different from those of individual elements.
For example, the above figure shows a compound made up of hydrogen atoms, carbon atoms, and an oxygen atom.
A mixture, on the other hand, is a substance that contains two or more components that are physically combined.
