Explanation:
- In search of new sources of raw materials, the great powers extended their power to non-European territories, thus opening a new chapter in history - imperialism. The undisputed imperialist force was Britain, which was going through the golden years of the Victorian era during this period. The British Navy only gets a serious competitor in the form of Germany at the end of the century.
- Since its unification, Germany has evolved into the most powerful land force, for which Bismarck was responsible, and in recent years has joined the imperialist race. The British interests clashed with those of another great power of the era - the Russian Empire.
- Russia, under the firm hand of Nikolai II was one of the most backward states among the great powers. The great poverty, the plight of the peasants and the regime of the self-states led to its vast potential in the ores being largely untapped, due to the underdevelopment of the industry.
- France and Russia signed a series of allied treaties between 1891 and 1895, defining their friendship in the event of Germany's attack on France. Then, fearing German expansion, the United Kingdom also allied itself with France in 1904 known as the Entente. The creation of the Alliance of the Entente was completed by the signing of the treaty of Russia and Britain in 1907. On the other hand, the Entente had an alliance of Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy. The Central Powers claimed the Balkans, where Austria-Hungary had consolidated its power since occupying the Berlin Congress by occupying the Ottoman province of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
