Your teacher asks you to design an experiment that shows how plants respond to changes in their environment. You have two identical sprouted seeds to do your experiment, and you may add any other equipment of your choosing. Using the scientific method, design an experiment that meets your teacher’s criteria. Match each step of the scientific method with a step of the experiment.

Answer:

The steps of the scientific method are: Previous knowledge about the study object. A question the investigator wants to answer. The goal, which is what the investigator wants to know. The hypothesis that the investigator makes in order to predict what is going to happen. The experiment is performed to answer the question. Conclusions where the hypothesis is rejected or accepted.

Explanation:

Previous knowledge: Zea mays is an annual plant that can grow up to 3 meters high. It has wide leaves with a noticeable central nerve.  It is very sensitive to changes in temperature and requires abundant water, although, it adapts to different edaphic conditions. It is grown in the template and subtropical areas on the planet.

Question: How do plants respond to temperature changes in their environment.

Objective/Goal: To study the temperature degree at which the Zea mays growth is affected.

Hypothesis: Zea mays will suffer from thermal stress when exposing the plants to any lower temperatures below 20ºC.

Experiment: Two identical sprouted Zea mays seeds are located in two glass boxes each: Box 1 and Box 2. Box 1 is the control box, and box 2 is the treatment box. Both of the boxes have ventilation holes at the top, a camera at the side and are provided with the same fertilized substrate, which is known to be optimum for adequate plant growth. Plants are exposed to natural light so their natural cycles are not affected and watered daily, so they do not suffer from water stress. Each box has a temperature regulator and a thermometer.

During the first two weeks, both plants will be growth at 25 ºC to reach a certain plant high. From the third week on, the temperature will be changed in box 2 every 2 weeks, exposing the plant to lower temperatures:

  • during weeks 3 and 4 the exposure temperature will be 20ºC,
  • during weeks 5 and 6 the exposure temperatures will be 15ºC
  • and finally, during weeks 7 and 8 the exposure temperatures will be 10ºC.

At each temperature lower than 25ºC, the investigator will observe and record every change in the plant belonging to the box 2. For better observation, the plant will be constantly filmed with a camera located at one side of the box, perpendicular to the plant. The plant belonging to box 1 should grow normally and healthy.

Every record will be then analyzed to conclude.

Answer:

1 test hypothesis put one plant under a white light bulb.

2 test and modify  if you observe no change repeat the experiment with different colors of light bulbs.

3  ask a question do plants grow well under sunlight

4 analyze the results and make a conclusion determine whether the plants grow under the white light bulbs or the red light bulbs better.

5 make observation plants grow well under sunlight or a lightbulb with hot or white light

Explanation:

i just took the test and passed you can also google each one to know what each one means hope this helps
