Buttons and zippers have a practical purpose. But are there uses for buttons and zippers beyond their functional use on clothing? What are other devices and materials that can be used to serve the same function that buttons and zippers do for clothing?

you could use paperclips, safety pins, some of those plastic links, and many other things that i can't think of at the moment.
