Flu Shot Frenzy
Some organizations are looking to make a lot of money off of the flu vaccine that is in such high
demand. A survey done last week reported that 55% of 677 hospital pharmacists who responded
reported being offered the vaccine at highly inflated prices. Of those, 84% said they would not
buy the vaccine at those prices. How many of the 677 hospital pharmacists did not say that they
would not buy the vaccine at the high prices? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.

Respuesta :

For this case we look for the amount of pharmacists who reported on the highly inflated prices, making a rule of three:

677 ------------> 100%

x -----------------> 55%

Where x represents the amount of pharmacists who reported highly inflated prices.

[tex]x = \frac {55 * 677} {100}\\x = 372.35[/tex]

Thus, approximately 373 pharmacists said that flu vaccine prices were highly inflated.

On the other hand, we make another rule of three to find the number of pharmacists who would not buy the vaccine at those prices:

373 --------> 100%

y ------------> 84%

Where y represents the amount of pharmacists who would not pay for the vaccine.

[tex]y = \frac {84 * 373} {100}\\y = 313.32[/tex]

Thus, approximately 314 pharmacists would not pay for the vaccine.

Answer:

Approximately 314 pharmacists would not pay for the vaccine.
